Aims

This Learning Path aims to:
  • Understand the communication process and describe some of the more common reasons why communication can break down
  • Describe the characteristics of a great communicator and why communication skills matter to your professional success
  • Define three types of communication and how they can be used most effectively
  • Understand the importance of active listening skills and the listening process
  • Understand different communication mediums and the strengths and weaknesses of four common mediums
  • Describe five of the most common communication barriers and explain how to avoid or overcome them

Overview

It's rare to see a job description without these words: 'Must have excellent communication skills.' But have you ever found yourself wondering what that means or how to demonstrate you’re a good communicator?

In this module, you’ll learn about the communication process, the traits of a great communicator, how to use three types of communication effectively, the importance of active listening, how to choose the right delivery method for your message, and how to remove barriers to having it understood. 

The module is aimed at 'operator' level. However, some supervisors and managers may also find this module beneficial.
